Mission
The "NTD International Traditional Chinese Martial Arts Competition" aims to inherit and promote the spirit of traditional martial arts, advocate martial virtue, and revive traditional Chinese divinely inspired culture.This competition focuses on showcasing the essence of Chinese divinely inspired culture, encouraging contestants to cultivate themselves with an indifferent attitude toward fame and fortune, to learn humbly, to uphold kindness and righteousness, to adhere to the traditional moral values of respecting teachers and valuing the Dao, and to prioritize virtue. The goal is to demonstrate the true spirit of traditional martial arts, and through the exchange of martial arts skills, embody the purpose of self-cultivation through martial arts and nurturing the mind through virtue, jointly reviving Chinese divinely inspired culture.
New Tang Dynasty Television (NTD) organized the competition. The finals will be broadcast live globally via internet channels.
Panel of Judges
The panel of judges for this Competition is composed of highly experienced traditional Chinese Martial Arts experts. The Competition’s Organizing Committee has also invited Masters from various martial arts systems to serve as consultants to the Competition.
Categories, Content and Requirements
- Entry Requirements
- For adult category: Age range 19 - 60 years old (Birth dates from 2005 - 1964).
- For junior category: Age range 8 - 18 years old (Birth dates from 2016 - 2006).
- If a contestant’s age does not meet this requirement, the contestant may still apply. However, the contestant must include his/her martial arts experience and physical condition in the application in order for the judging committee to consider his/her candidacy.
- The contestants who won the gold award in NTD previous martial arts competitions cannot compete the same category again.
- Competition Categories
- Adult Unarmed Hand Category (divided into male, female): Includes Long Fist styles such as Cha Quan, Hua (flower) Quan, Pao Quan, Hong Quan, Hua (China) Quan, Shaolin, etc. It also includes other external fist styles such as Mian Quan, Tong Bei, Praying Mantis, Fanzi Quan, Ba Chi Quan (Eight Extremes Fist), etc. and internal fist styles such as Ba Gua, Xing Yi, etc.
- Southern martial arts style is not included
- Adult Weapon Category (divided into male, female): Includes external weapons such as Sword, Broadsword, Spear, Staff, etc., and internal weapons such as Xing Yi Sword, Xing Yi Broadsword and Xing Yi Spear, as well as Yuanyang Blades, Qian Kun Circular Blades, etc.

- Note:
- Contemporary Wushu soft metal weapons do not meet the requirements of this competition and cannot be used, however the contestants in the junior category are not subject to this rule.
- An internal style form should be limited to 3 minutes and should include most of the traditional techniques of the related style.
- An external style form should be limited to 2 minutes and should include most of the traditional techniques of the related style.
- Exceptions to the duration limit requires advanced approval upon registration.
- Contestants must be well experienced in the category that they apply for. Beginners should not apply. This contest is for advanced martial arts practitioners only.
- Each contestant can apply up to two categories for the preliminary round of this competition. Only one form is allowed for each category. Based on the score of the preliminary round, a contestant can only advance to the semi-final round in the category with better score.
Competition Schedule
- Preliminaries: Two competition regions – the Asia-Pacific Region (competition location: Taipei) and the North America Region (competition location: New York).
- Contestants from other regions may register to participate in the preliminary round in New York.
- Semi-finals and Finals: Contestants who pass the preliminary round will advance to the semi-finals; those who pass the semi-finals will advance to the finals.

- Online Registration: Please complete registration by submitting all the required information and material, and pay the registration fee on the official competition website (martialarts.ntdtv.com).
- Mail Registration: contestants who are unable to register online, must completely fill out the registration form and resume (downloadable from the competition website), submit two one-inch color recent photos and other related material, and attach a "photocopy of payment proof." Please mail the above materials to the competition committee by regular mail or express mail. Those who submit complete registration materials before the registration deadline will be listed as contestants. All registration materials provided will not be returned.

Note: U.S. federal tax law stipulates that if the winner is a "non-U.S. resident," the awarding organization must "withhold 30% tax" and report to the U.S. tax authorities. "Tax filing and obtaining refunds" is the individual winner's responsibility.
Scoring Criteria
- Any competition forms must conform to the traditional martial arts characteristics of that style.
- The Panel of Judges will evaluate each contestant’s performance according to the following characteristics of the related martial arts style.
- The style, characteristics and depth of the set of traditional martial arts demonstrated must not mixing any other style martial arts or being creative. The Panel of Judges will evaluate each contestant’s performance according to the characteristics of the related martial arts style.
- The Correctness of Posture: The movements of arms (手 shǒu), eyes (眼 yǎn), head (頭 tóu), poses and form (身 shēn), footwork (步 bù) as well as patterns of handmotion (手型 shǒu xíng), step motion (步型 bù xíng), and body motion (身型 shēn xíng) have to meet the characteristics and the style of the chosen Martial arts Form
- The Coordination of Movements: The complete coordination of hands, eyes, the methods of the bodywork (身法 shēn fǎ) and the footwork (步法 bù fǎ), spirit, energy, strength, and kung fu, those are absolute requirements .
- The Clarity of Methods: Listed below the three categories have to be presented clearly:
- The demonstration of the traditional martial arts’ unique characteristics, the methods of kicking, striking, wrestling.
- Grappling of the fist method.
- All correct techniques of the use of traditional weapons, such as striking, slashing.
- Smooth Power: The power should be manifested in a relaxed and natural way, without any stiffness or forced power.
- Natural Breathing: Demonstrates smooth internal qi circulation extending outward, without breath-holding, forced breathing, or disconnection of qi and power.
- Internal-External Harmony: Demonstrates the harmony of internal energy with external movements and power, such as hard, soft, gathering, releasing, advancing, retreating, etc., with clear traditional martial arts characteristics.
- Spiritual Concentration: Demonstrates that the spiritual consciousness of traditional martial arts throughout the entire process, such as mighty, brave, focused, precise, as well as yielding, evading, softening, going with momentum, empty and solid, all with positive spiritual manifestation, which is martial virtue.
- Clear Rhythm: Refers to the alternation of fast and slow movement speeds, orderly stillness and motion, urgency and ease following form, using martial skill to embody the body's sense of rhythm.
- Guidelines for Traditional forms: Forms must not include any elements of the Contemporary Competitive Wushu styles. The forms performed must conform to the traditional characteristics of the corresponding fist or weapon system. Only inherited forms may be performed; The content of the forms must conform to the mechanical principles and cultural connotations of traditional martial arts and demonstrate their spirit and values. Furthermore, the multiple connotations of traditional martial arts, such as health preservation, fitness, self-defense, artistic appreciation, and self-cultivation, should also be reflected in the forms.
- Martial Arts Etiquette: Contestants should wear traditional martial arts attire and salute the judges before and after performances (such as bowing, baoquan, or pairing palms). Contestants should place the Martial Arts virtue as the top priority and conduct themselves with proper etiquette. Any inappropriate behavior will result in disqualification from the competition.
- Contestants must complete their forms within the stipulated (or pre-approved) time limit; exceeding or falling short of the time limit will result in point deductions.
- The Competition Panel of Judges reserves the right to the final interpretation of these competition rules.
Accommodation and Transportation
- The competition committee will recommend suitable U.S. hotels for contestants and their accompanying personnel.
- Contestants and their accompanying personnel are responsible for their own travel expenses, accommodation, and transportation costs.
Miscellaneous
- Once registered, contestants accept all provisions of these competition rules as valid.
- Contestants must comply with all arrangements of the competition committee. If violated, the competition committee has the right to cancel participation qualification and any awards received.
- Award winners must personally attend the awards ceremony to receive awards; awards cannot be received by proxy. Absent contestants will be deemed to have automatically forfeited their awards.
- The Competition Panel of Judges' decisions are final; no appeals will be accepted.
- All audio and video copyrights of competition activities belong to New Tang Dynasty Television.
- Contestants are personally responsible for any accidents occurring during the competition period.
- The competition committee has final interpretation rights for these competition rules and has the right to modify the competition regulations when necessary.
